# Miguel Aguilar

> Miquel Aguilar is a veteran mural artist with nearly six decades of experience in traditional sign painting, large-scale billboards, and hand-painted public murals across Mexico and the United States. He began his career in 1967 at age 13 in Guadalajara, Mexico, learning the craft through hands-on apprenticeship in sign shops before working for Vendor Outdoor, the largest billboard company in Mexico at the time. After immigrating to Los Angeles in 1976, Aguilar built a distinguished career painting monumental outdoor murals and billboards for companies including California Signs, Sewell Signs, R & R Signs, and Eller Outdoor Media. In recent years, Aguilar has continued his mural practice with Walldogs, mentoring younger painters and executing major hand-painted works. His career includes landmark projects such as the Mission: Impossible mural, a fully hand-painted, photorealistic installation covering 13,875 square feet, executed using traditional artist oils and brushes while suspended from high-reach swing-stage equipment. In January 2026, Aguilar is honored by the Mexican Consulate with the Orgullo Mexicano (Mexican Pride) Award, recognizing his lifetime contribution to mural art and cultural legacy.
